Each material has strengths. Here is how the most common choices generally compare.

Local know-how
What to know before new countertops
01 — Cabinets
A solid, level base
Stone tops are heavy and unforgiving. Cabinets need to be sound and level before measuring, so we check them during the estimate.
02 — Timing
Measure after cabinets are set
Final measurements are taken once the cabinets are in place, and fabrication takes time after that. The schedule accounts for both.
03 — Sun
Bright rooms and lanais
Strong direct sunlight can discolor some quartz products, which is why manufacturers generally advise against them outdoors. We’ll suggest materials that suit the space.

Questions
Common questions about countertops
Have a different question? Ask when you request your estimate, or give us a call.
Can new countertops go on my existing cabinets?
Often, yes, if the cabinets are solid, level and in a layout you want to keep. We’ll check them during the estimate and tell you honestly if anything needs attention first.
How long will I be without a sink?
Usually only between removing the old tops and installing the new ones. It depends on the material and the fabrication schedule; your written estimate includes the expected timeline.
Do I need a new sink and faucet?
Not always. New stone tops are a natural time to switch to an undermount sink or a new faucet, but existing ones can often be reused. We’ll go through the options.
Will my countertops have seams?
Long runs and L-shaped counters usually need at least one seam. A good layout puts seams where they’re least noticeable, and we’ll talk through where they’ll fall before fabrication.
